Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, expressed great enthusiasm for Gemini, hailing it as a groundbreaking innovation that has attracted considerable attention since its announcement. This positive reception follows the impactful launch of ChatGPT last November, compelling Google to take substantial steps to stay abreast of the generative AI trend. This concerted effort not only led to the introduction of Google Bard but also unveiled the innovative Google Gemini.

“We are building our next generation of models with Gemini and I am extraordinarily excited at the innovation coming ahead. I expect it to be a golden age of innovation ahead and can't wait to bring all the innovations to more people,” Pichai recently said at the APEC CEO Conference.

Just a few months after Google merged its Brain and DeepMind AI labs to create the new research entity, Google DeepMind, the emergence of Google Gemini took place. This development swiftly followed the launch of Bard and the introduction of its sophisticated PaLM 2 LLM.

Anticipated for a potential autumn 2023 release, Google Gemini's specific capabilities are still shrouded in mystery, with comprehensive details yet to be disclosed.

In May, Sundar Pichai published a blog post providing a comprehensive overview of the LLM, stating: "Gemini was purpose-built from the ground up to be multimodal, boasting highly efficient tool and API integrations, and designed to facilitate future innovations such as memory and planning."

"Despite being in its early stages, we are already witnessing remarkable multimodal capabilities not previously seen in earlier models. Once fine-tuned and rigorously assessed for safety, Gemini will be available in various sizes and functionalities, akin to PaLM 2," Pichai further added.

Since then, official information regarding its release has been limited. In an interview with Wired, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis hinted at Gemini's capabilities, alluding to its integration of AlphaGo's strengths with the remarkable language proficiency of large models.

As per Android Police, an undisclosed source affiliated with the product has indicated that Gemini is poised to generate text in conjunction with contextual images, utilizing sources like YouTube video transcripts.
