BY SME Business Review

Oxehealth is a technology company that offers a non-contact health monitoring platform designed to improve patient care and enhance clinical efficiency. By using advanced optical sensors and artificial intelligence, Oxehealth tracks vital signs such as heart rate and respiratory rate, along with behavioral patterns, all without the need for physical contact. This innovative solution is particularly beneficial in high-dependency healthcare settings like hospitals and care homes, where continuous, real-time monitoring is crucial. Oxehealth enables healthcare providers to make timely, data-driven decisions while improving patient comfort and safety.

In a recent interview with SME Business Review, Todd Haedrich, CEO of Oxehealth, discussed the company's innovative approach to non-contact health monitoring and its potential to revolutionize patient care in high-dependency healthcare settings. Here’s what Mr. Haedrich had to say.

Interview Excerpts

Oxehealth’s platform has made significant strides in healthcare. Could you tell us a bit more about how the technology works and its impact on patient care?

At Oxehealth, we have developed a platform that uses advanced optical sensors and AI to monitor patients’ vital signs and behavior without the need for contact. The platform tracks things like heart rate, respiratory rate, and even subtle changes in a patient's behavior that could signal a health issue. We have designed it to provide continuous, real-time data, which is especially valuable in high-dependency environments like intensive care units, where every moment counts. This means healthcare professionals can make informed, timely decisions without interrupting the patient’s care or comfort.

How does this non-contact approach improve patient experience and clinical outcomes?

The non-contact nature of our system is a game changer. Traditional monitoring methods often involve patients wearing devices that can be uncomfortable or disruptive. For patients who are elderly or have cognitive impairments, these devices can be even more difficult to tolerate. Our platform, on the other hand, works without interrupting the patient’s daily routine or causing discomfort. By collecting data unobtrusively, we not only improve patient comfort but also enable healthcare providers to detect potential issues earlier, which can drastically improve outcomes by allowing for quicker interventions.

Oxehealth’s technology has been implemented in over 850 institutional asset owners across Europe. How has the response been from the healthcare industry so far?

The response has been incredibly positive. Healthcare professionals have been eager to adopt our technology because it significantly reduces the burden of manual checks and enhances the quality of care. In environments like hospitals, where time is precious, our platform allows clinicians to focus more on direct patient care instead of constantly monitoring vitals manually. What we hear most often from healthcare teams is that it’s not just a tool; it’s a game changer for how they manage patient care in high-stress environments.

What challenges did Oxehealth face in developing this technology, and how did the team overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges we faced was developing a system that could provide highly accurate data without the need for patient contact. It took years of research and testing to fine-tune our sensors and algorithms. We had to ensure that the technology could work across different environments and capture the nuanced data that healthcare professionals need, all while being completely unobtrusive. Our team worked relentlessly to ensure that the platform would meet the highest standards of accuracy and reliability, and we’re very proud of the result.

As CEO, how do you see the future of Oxehealth?

I am incredibly excited about the future. We’re constantly evolving, and there are endless possibilities for how our technology can expand. Right now, we’re focused on healthcare settings, but there’s a growing demand for remote patient monitoring, especially with the shift toward more home-based care. Our platform is perfectly suited for that, and we’re working to ensure that it can be seamlessly integrated into a wide variety of healthcare environments. Ultimately, I see Oxehealth playing a major role in not only improving patient care but also reshaping how healthcare systems approach monitoring and patient engagement.

Could you tell us more about how Oxehealth helps to reduce hospital readmissions and improve overall care efficiency?

Our platform allows healthcare providers to intervene earlier, which can help prevent patient deterioration and reduce the need for readmissions. By providing continuous, real-time data, we give clinicians the ability to detect changes in a patient's condition before it becomes a critical issue. This proactive approach means that healthcare providers can act quickly to address potential problems, which helps avoid the escalation of conditions that would otherwise lead to hospitalization or longer stays. Our system also improves operational efficiency by reducing the time spent on manual monitoring, which means clinicians can spend more time focusing on direct patient care.

How do you see Oxehealth playing a role in the future of remote monitoring?

Remote monitoring is a huge part of the future of healthcare, especially as more patients are managed outside of traditional hospital settings. Oxehealth is ideally positioned for this shift. Since our platform is non-contact, it allows for accurate, continuous monitoring that doesn’t require patients to wear any devices. This is perfect for home healthcare, where traditional monitoring can be difficult or impractical. With the increasing demand for telemedicine, we see our technology enabling healthcare professionals to monitor patients remotely, with the same level of accuracy and reliability they would get in a clinical setting.

Data security is a big concern in healthcare. How does Oxehealth ensure patient privacy and security?

We take data security very seriously. Our platform complies with all necessary data protection regulations, and we’ve implemented robust security measures to ensure that patient data is kept private and secure. Healthcare providers need to trust that the data they’re collecting is not only accurate but also protected, and we’ve worked hard to build that trust. Our technology ensures that sensitive patient information is encrypted and stored securely, giving both healthcare professionals and patients confidence in our platform.

How do you see Oxehealth growing over the next few years?

We’re looking at a very exciting future. We plan to continue expanding our reach within healthcare, but there are also numerous opportunities to expand into other sectors like elderly care and home healthcare. Our goal is to continue innovating and scaling, ensuring that more patients, healthcare professionals, and organizations can benefit from the power of non-contact patient monitoring. Our long-term vision is to be a key player in transforming how healthcare is delivered across the globe.
