Snowflake Acquires Crunchy Data to Deepen AI Infrastructure
The deal expands Snowflake’s push into PostgreSQL as tech giants race to own the AI-ready data layer.

BOZEMAN, Mont., June 3, 2025 — Snowflake said Monday it plans to acquire Crunchy Data, a 13-year-old provider of enterprise-grade Postgres database tools, as part of its broader push to reinforce its AI-compatible data offerings.
While the companies did not disclose financial terms, a source familiar with the matter estimated the transaction is valued at approximately $250 million. Snowflake declined to comment on the deal’s valuation.
The move adds to a growing wave of acquisitions by large technology firms racing to consolidate the data infrastructure that underpins artificial intelligence tools. In recent weeks, Salesforce purchased Informatica to strengthen its data management tooling for AI, while Alation bought Numbers Station, and ServiceNow acquired Data.World — all with the same endgame: optimizing for AI agents.
Crunchy Data, based in South Carolina, builds products that help enterprises deploy Postgres — the open-source object-relational database widely used by developers. Its clients include UPS, SAS, Moneytree, and U.S. federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security.
The deal will enable Snowflake to launch Snowflake Postgres, an enterprise-grade PostgreSQL database. The product will be offered to Snowflake’s customers and partners including Blue Yonder and LandingAI, with a private preview expected soon.
“Our vision is to deliver the world’s most trusted and comprehensive data and AI platform to our customers,” said Vivek Raghunathan, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Support at Snowflake. “Today’s announcement of our proposed acquisition of Crunchy Data represents another reason why Snowflake is the ultimate destination for all enterprise data and AI needs.”
In 2024, Snowflake introduced new connectors for PostgreSQL and MySQL. The Crunchy Data acquisition signals a step further, bringing core Postgres capabilities in-house. It also follows Snowflake’s 2023 purchase of data management firm Datavolo, further consolidating its infrastructure in anticipation of heightened AI adoption.
Snowflake expects to make the Crunchy tech stack available to users in a limited release soon.
We’re tackling a massive $350 billion market opportunity and a real need for our customers to bring Postgres to the Snowflake AI Data Cloud.
