In modern healthcare, timely access to diagnostic information can make a critical difference in clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. Yet high-quality medical imaging often remains limited by cost, complexity, and dependence on traditional hospital settings, creating barriers to faster diagnosis and broader access to care. As healthcare increasingly shifts toward decentralized and point-of-care delivery, the demand for imaging technologies that are portable, intelligent, and easy to use continues to grow.
Addressing this need, Exo (pronounced “Echo”), a medical imaging software and devices company, is making high-quality, affordable, and easy-to-use medical imaging accessible worldwide. The company is modernizing medical imaging through its high-performance ultrasound platform and artificial intelligence, enabling healthcare professionals to make critical, real-time clinical decisions that improve patient outcomes. Its integrated ecosystem combines high-performance imaging, FDA-cleared AI, and workflow software designed to make medical imaging as intuitive as using a smartphone.
Exo Iris®
Exo Iris® is the company’s flagship handheld ultrasound platform, designed to deliver high-performance, whole-body imaging in a compact, portable device. Combining advanced ultrasound hardware with FDA-cleared AI and integrated workflow software, the platform enables clinicians to capture, interpret, document, and securely share medical images from virtually any point of care. Built on Exo’s proprietary ultrasound technology, Exo Iris® supports multiple imaging modes, provides scan depths of up to 30 cm with an ultra-wide field of view, and incorporates on-device SweepAI™ to automate image acquisition and assist with cardiac, lung, and vascular assessments. Its seamless integration with Exo Works® further streamlines documentation, cloud storage, PACS connectivity, and clinical workflows, helping healthcare providers deliver faster, more informed patient care.
Exo Works®
Exo Works® is a point-of-care ultrasound workflow solution designed to simplify the way healthcare professionals document, review, share, and manage ultrasound exams. The platform streamlines critical workflows by enabling clinicians to document exams, access images, collaborate with colleagues, manage quality assurance and credentialing, and securely connect with electronic health records (EHR) and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).
Built for flexibility, Exo Works® supports integration with DICOM-enabled ultrasound systems and provides healthcare organizations with a scalable platform for managing point-of-care ultrasound programs across departments and locations. By bringing imaging, reporting, collaboration, and workflow management into a single ecosystem, Exo Works® helps clinicians reduce administrative complexity and focus more time on patient care.
Exo’s SweepAI™
Exo’s SweepAI™ technology continuously evaluates ultrasound image quality during scanning and provides immediate feedback to help clinicians capture optimal diagnostic images. The AI-powered system automatically identifies high-quality images and indicates when sufficient diagnostic information has been collected, allowing clinicians to complete assessments within seconds. FDA-cleared for cardiac and lung applications, SweepAI™ supports Exo Iris® with AI-based indicators for conditions including heart failure (CHF, HFrEF), cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyopathies, valvular disease, pneumonia, and pulmonary embolism.
Technology
Exo’s technology platform is built to transform the way ultrasound is designed, delivered, and used at the point of care. The company’s proprietary Exo Silicon technology leverages Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer (pMUT)-based chip technology to combine advanced semiconductor manufacturing with ultrasound imaging, enabling high-performance imaging in a compact form factor. The technology integrates features such as harmonic imaging, real-time on-device AI, and an ultra-wide field of view, providing clinicians with powerful imaging capabilities through portable solutions.
By combining advanced hardware, artificial intelligence, and software capabilities, Exo is developing an ultrasound ecosystem designed to make medical imaging more accessible and intuitive for healthcare professionals. Its pMUT technology is designed to support current handheld ultrasound applications while creating a foundation for future innovations, including advanced imaging capabilities and broader diagnostic applications.
SANDEEP AKKARAJU | CO-FOUNDER & CEO
Sandeep is Exo’s Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, bringing a proven entrepreneurial background with hands-on managerial experience in leading interdisciplinary technology and business teams and a track record of bringing complex hardware and software products to market. Exo is his fourth startup organization.
Prior to founding Exo, Sandeep was Founder and President of Jyve Inc., which was acquired by a major semiconductor corporation at an exit valuation of more than $60 million. Previously, he was CEO of IntelliSense, a leading provider of micro-mechanical integrated circuits (MEMS) and nanotechnology-based software and solutions. Under his guidance, IntelliSense expanded its physical presence into China and India and its sales presence into more than 30 countries. Sandeep helped the company grow from a startup to its eventual acquisition at a valuation of $750 million. In 2003, he led the re-acquisition of IntelliSense from Corning.
Sandeep holds a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, an M.S. from LSU, and an M.B.A. from INSEAD, France.
