Dermagnostix is a spin-off of the Hahn-Schickard Institute in Freiburg, the Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU), and the Technical University of Munich (TU Munich). Built on decades of research in dermatology, immunology, bioinformatics, and microfluidics, the company combines scientific expertise with practical clinical application. Headquartered in Freiburg, Southern Germany, a region recognized for medical technology innovation, Dermagnostix focuses on advancing precision diagnostics for skin diseases.

While therapies for inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer have progressed rapidly, diagnostic methods have advanced more slowly. Dermagnostix addresses this gap by delivering objective molecular diagnostic solutions directly to dermatology practices and laboratories, enabling more precise and informed clinical decision-making.

In 2025, Dermagnostix expanded its technology portfolio with the launch of its Lumalytix sub-brand. The company acquired the DiskReader business and its underlying fluorescence detector technology, bringing production of its Analyzer fully in-house. By internalizing the development and manufacturing of critical optical components, Dermagnostix strengthened its technological independence, enhanced scalability, and improved quality control. Through Lumalytix, the company continues to advance fluorescence detection technologies for molecular diagnostics, research, and industrial applications with products such as the FluoSens Go and FluoSens Integrated modules, developed and manufactured in Germany.

Products

Analyzer

The Dermagnostix Analyzer is a fully automated molecular diagnostics platform designed to evaluate skin at the gene expression level, providing objective insights into each patient’s molecular signature to support clinical decision-making. Combining advanced microfluidics technology with a plug-and-play workflow, the system enables dermatologists, dermatopathologists, and diagnostic laboratories to generate standardized, reproducible results with minimal training and without complex laboratory infrastructure.

Designed to address diagnostic challenges in clinically similar inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, the Analyzer delivers results within approximately one to two hours. The system supports efficient report generation through the Dermagnostix cloud platform and integrates the LabDisk and DermDisk product lines for molecular diagnostics, while the TargetDisk product line supports research applications.

Developed and manufactured in Germany in compliance with IVDR requirements, the Analyzer is designed to improve diagnostic accuracy, laboratory efficiency, and access to objective point-of-care molecular testing.

LabDisk Product Line

The Dermagnostix LabDisk product line brings standardized molecular diagnostics into dermatopathology laboratories, providing objective and reproducible molecular insights for routine diagnostic workflows. By analyzing gene expression patterns from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples, the platform complements conventional histopathology and helps clarify complex cases where clinical and histological findings overlap.

The product line includes PsorX-LabDisk, a gene expression-based molecular test designed to support the differential diagnosis of psoriasis and eczema, two inflammatory skin diseases with similar clinical and histopathological characteristics. By reducing diagnostic uncertainty at the molecular level, the test supports more informed treatment decisions.

Dermagnostix is also developing LymphX to support differentiation between early Mycosis Fungoides and benign inflammatory skin conditions.

Built on an integrated cartridge-based centrifugal microfluidics platform, LabDisk delivers standardized molecular results through a streamlined workflow without requiring specialized molecular laboratory equipment. The system provides results within one to two hours with minimal hands-on time and is developed and manufactured in Germany in compliance with IVDR requirements.

DermDisk Product Line

The DermDisk product line extends molecular diagnostics into dermatology practices, enabling point-of-care testing without reliance on external laboratories. Built around the fully automated Dermagnostix Analyzer, the platform combines minimally invasive sample collection with a guided workflow, allowing dermatologists to generate standardized molecular diagnostic results on-site in approximately two hours.

Designed for complex skin disease diagnosis, DermDisk provides objective molecular insights that complement clinical evaluation when visual examination and histopathology alone may be inconclusive. The platform uses minimally invasive sampling methods that can reduce the need for biopsy, minimize patient discomfort, and allow sample collection from anatomically challenging areas.

The product line includes PsorXD-DermDisk, a gene expression-based molecular test supporting the differential diagnosis of psoriasis and eczema at the point of care through minimally invasive sampling techniques such as superficial curettage. Using the same Dermagnostix Analyzer as the LabDisk product line, DermDisk delivers a consistent and scalable molecular diagnostics workflow.

Developed and manufactured in Germany in compliance with IVDR requirements, the platform is designed to make objective molecular diagnostics more accessible in everyday dermatology practice.

TargetDisk Product Line

The TargetDisk product line advances molecular skin research by providing biomarker-based insights into the biological mechanisms underlying skin health and disease. Intended for research use only (RUO), the platform enables researchers, dermatologists, and dermatopathology laboratories to explore gene expression patterns and compare molecular signatures across skin samples.

Designed for integration with the Dermagnostix Analyzer, TargetDisk measures selected target and reference genes to generate standardized molecular data for advanced skin profiling. The product line includes PE-TargetDisk and Erysk-TargetDisk, with Erysk-TargetDisk designed to analyze biomarkers such as LCK and HOMER1 in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) skin samples.

These biomarkers have been investigated for their potential role in distinguishing early-stage mycosis fungoides from benign inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema, providing researchers with additional molecular context when clinical and histopathological findings are inconclusive.

By expanding molecular profiling capabilities and supporting automated workflows through the Dermagnostix Analyzer, TargetDisk enables researchers to investigate skin biology, compare molecular signatures, and accelerate innovation in dermatological research.
