BioLogic Technik Monitors Elderly Mobility With Intelligent Wearable
By measuring balance, stride and strength, BioLogic’s technology helps clinicians act early to reduce the risk of falls and hospitalization.

Bernard Loke, Founder, BioLogic Technik
BioLogic Technik is a Singapore-based deep-tech startup developing a wearable system that measures gait and strength to identify early warning signs of frailty in elderly patients. Hospital and nursing home trials were 90 percent accurate in detecting weakness of mobility. Bernard Loke founded the company in 2019, and he still runs operations today.
Designed to Detect Decline Before It’s Visible
BioLogic uses body-worn sensors and a biomechanics algorithm embedded in its mobile application to monitor movement. As users walk, the sensors record stride length, balance and force. The platform analyzes the data in real time and detects subtle signs of physical decline, often before they are noticeable in routine checkups. Bernard says this early insight allows caregivers to intervene sooner and help prevent serious setbacks, including falls and hospitalization.
Developed for Everyday Environments
BioLogic’s system is used in homes, care homes, or hospitals. A tiny wearable clips onto clothing or straps. It wirelessly links to an app on a smartphone or tablet. It requires no clinical oversight, and training can be done in under an hour. The installation integrates into normal care routines, not vice versa.
Aging Population Calls for a New Approach
Average lifespans doubled since the 1800s but healthful aging is not necessarily the result. Frailty impacts millions globally and frequently surprises caregivers. Bernard cites research that connects early gait changes to arthritis, Parkinson's and falls risks. Monitoring regularly, he says, provides individuals with an opportunity to remain in their own homes longer and live with more independence.
Working Fast with Open Innovation
Bernard applied the lessons from the aviation industry. There, complicated systems depend on several partners. He did the same at BioLogic. The firm licensed sensors from local institutes and enlisted the services of sports science experts to develop strength tests. They did a proof of concept in six months after they prototyped a personalized exercise program.
Integration and Scale
The BioPacer system is more than gait monitoring. It provides fall prevention, bed-exit notification and an Internet-of-Things platform for facilities management. One case study demonstrated deployment in a single hospital and three nursing homes and reached thousands of users. The larger system also allows staff to monitor inventory, resident egress, and fitness trends on a unified dashboard.
Recognition and Real-World Use
BioLogic has received numerous awards, such as Singapore's iHIS Open Innovation Challenge and the National Innovation Award in 2023. It collaborates with local Active Aging Centres. It works with fitness and rehab providers to enable seniors to regain their strength and confidence. Early adopters say they enjoy better balance, better flexibility, and more confidence during their daily activities.
A Profile in Leadership
Bernard Loke brings technical expertise from aviation and finance to healthcare innovation. He developed systems for challenging environments and applied the same thinking to clinical environments. His team now emphasizes practical design, rapid iteration and respect for current workflows. His leadership enabled the development of a platform within months, not years.
What’s Next
BioLogic will introduce predictive tools like fall risk scoring and recovery benchmarks. Its plans also include geographic expansion in Southeast Asia and collaborations with health systems to incorporate mobility data into patient records. It also plans to implement community-level monitoring in geriatric societies.
Bernard says the goal is not to replace clinics. “We’re giving clinicians tools they need before frailty becomes critical,” he said. His vision is to make mobility data as standard as blood pressure in eldercare.
