In Conversation with Christine Yip, Founder & CEO of AusMed Global

What inspired you to establish AusMed Global?

I have always been passionate about improving healthcare solutions, particularly for chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity. The limitations of traditional blood ketone testing pushed me to explore a non-invasive alternative. Our goal is to make ketone monitoring more accessible, convenient, and effective so that people can manage their health proactively without the discomfort and inconvenience of blood tests.

How does the KetoMetrics breath ketone system work, and what makes it unique?

KetoMetrics is designed to measure ketones in the breath, providing a real-time, non-invasive alternative to traditional blood tests. The technology delivers lab-grade accuracy, making it a reliable tool for screening diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and monitoring ketosis. What sets it apart is its ability to provide immediate feedback, allowing users to track metabolic changes effortlessly. Unlike blood or urine tests, which require consumables and can be inconvenient, our system offers a seamless experience with no need for finger pricking or test strips.

What challenges did you face in developing this technology, and how did you overcome them?

Creating a non-invasive ketone monitoring system with lab-grade accuracy was a significant challenge. Breath analysis is highly sensitive, and ensuring consistent, reliable results required extensive research and development. We invested heavily in refining sensor technology and validating our results against gold-standard methods. Partnering with leading research institutions and securing over 25 global patents strengthened our position in the industry.

AusMed has received multiple awards and recognitions. What do these achievements mean for the company?

Recognition from MedTech Innovator Asia Pacific 2024 and the People's Choice Award at InsurTech Insights Asia 2023 validates the hard work and innovation behind our technology. Being FDA-listed further affirms our commitment to meeting rigorous quality and safety standards. These milestones reinforce our mission to transform diabetes and obesity care while motivating us to push boundaries in non-invasive health monitoring.

How does the KetoMetrics app enhance the user experience?

The KetoMetrics app provides real-time data insights, helping users track their ketone levels over time. It’s designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, offering personalized recommendations based on metabolic trends. The app’s recognition with a Silver Medal at the 2022 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions highlights its effectiveness as a high-performance fat loss management solution.

What role does your partnership with Merck play in advancing diabetes management?

Our partnership with Merck expands access to innovative diabetes management solutions. By combining our expertise in breath ketone monitoring with Merck’s extensive experience in diabetes care, we are creating more effective tools for patients and healthcare professionals. This collaboration is crucial in driving the adoption of non-invasive monitoring technologies and making metabolic health management more efficient and accessible.

Why is non-invasive ketone monitoring important for people with diabetes and obesity?

For people managing diabetes or obesity, regular ketone monitoring is essential for tracking metabolic health. Traditional blood tests can be painful and inconvenient, often discouraging regular testing. A non-invasive alternative eliminates these barriers, making it easier for individuals to stay on top of their health. It also encourages early detection of potential complications like diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly.

How does your technology compare to traditional blood ketone testing in terms of accuracy?

We designed KetoMetrics to deliver results comparable to lab-grade blood testing. Extensive validation studies have demonstrated its accuracy, making it a reliable alternative. The advantage is that users can test more frequently without the discomfort of pricking their fingers or the ongoing cost of test strips. This makes it a game-changer for people who need to monitor ketone levels regularly.

What impact do you hope to achieve with AusMed Global’s innovations?

Our goal is to empower individuals with better health management tools. By making ketone monitoring easier and more accessible, we hope to improve adherence to metabolic health management and reduce complications associated with diabetes and obesity. We also aim to advance scientific understanding of ketones and their role in healthy longevity, contributing to broader applications beyond metabolic conditions.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs looking to innovate in the health tech space?

Stay focused on solving real problems. Healthcare innovation should be driven by a clear need, not just technology for the sake of technology. Building strong partnerships, validating solutions through rigorous research, and staying adaptable in a rapidly evolving industry are key to success.

How can healthcare professionals and potential partners collaborate with AusMed Global?

We welcome collaborations with healthcare providers, researchers, and industry partners who share our vision for improving metabolic health management. Those interested can connect with us through our website or at industry conferences. We are always open to exploring opportunities that align with our mission.

What are the next steps for AusMed Global?

We are continuously improving our technology to enhance user experience and expand its applications. Our focus is on integrating AI-driven analytics, expanding market reach, and furthering research collaborations. We also plan to introduce additional features to the KetoMetrics system, making it even more intuitive and insightful for users.
