“Your personal self-leadership skills are the secret ingredient to success, making all the difference in both life and work.”
Wellness Orbit is a B2B-focused mental wellness training solution based on a systematic, proactive approach. Similar to going to the gym, the solution focuses on training the mind rather than the body, using practical intrapersonal skills. For optimal results, it combines self-evaluations with one-on-one training feel, making it a relaxing experience, accessible 24/7.
Wellness Orbit was founded in 2015.
SME Business Review reached out to Kaur Lass, Managing Director and founder of Wellness Orbit, for an interview. In the conversation, Kaur shares his insights on how to stay healthy while managing mentally demanding tasks.
Interview Excerpt
Could you describe your business background?
My previous experience in spatial planning exposed me to the pressures of balancing competing interests and navigating complex regulatory frameworks. However, I never experienced any mental health issues, as I was able to view difficult and demanding situations as challenges to remain calm and focused on completing my professional tasks.
My primary responsibility was to facilitate the development of plans through collaborative discussions and ensure they were completed to the highest possible standard. Each plan I worked on was unique, but every planning process required dedication, sustained focus, and inner calm, as it was necessary to secure the numerous agreements mandated by law within the tightly regulated spatial planning process.
What I discovered is that the key for a team leader is knowing how to stay calm and help others stay calm. The same basic inner principles apply to everyone, and once you learn these intrapersonal rules, life and work become much easier.
Knowing how to stay calm and focused allows us to concentrate on what needs to be done. This is just as relevant now as I focus on running Wellness Orbit—the world’s first fully digital mental wellness gym for teams.
Why is it important to train your mind for better health?
Maintaining a fit mind is essential, whether you work with your hands or your head. You can't survive running a business and doing professional work when you're stressed and lack focus. The ability to observe, notice, and adapt to situations as you move forward is also crucial.
Preparing spatial plans exposed me to constant external pressure. I learned that you can manage external pressure, but for that, you need hands-on skills to keep your mind well. In addition to maintaining a calm and focused mindset as an entrepreneur, I also needed to calm others by demonstrating leadership.
I realized that beyond professional skills, intrapersonal skills are also necessary to navigate challenging situations. All professional, business, interpersonal, and intrapersonal skills develop only with practice. Your personal self-leadership skills are the secret ingredient to success, making all the difference in both life and work.
How would you sum up your lessons?
Here are seven mental wellness tips that have enabled me to stay well:
1. Always secure your own mental wellness first. You can support others only when you are well. You can’t perform impeccably when you are stressed, anxious, worried, or on the path to burnout.
2. Stay present and lead your own awareness. Being aware of the actual situation enables you to seize the day. Regardless of what others say or do, your primary task is to be conscious of where your awareness is and to lead it—and yourself—at will.
3. Always maintain your inner peace and focus on solutions, not problems. Solving any challenge requires time. While situations may change, the strategy to achieve your agreed-upon destination should remain consistent.
4. Take time off and relax. Planning or running a business isn’t a single-lap race; it’s more like the original 24 Hours of Le Mans on country roads. In any long race, pit stops are inevitable, and the pit stop strategy often determines who wins and who loses. Always set your own pace and rest well when you can. Without effective self-leadership and with your subconscious mind creating obstacles, you’ll struggle to finish successfully.
5. After taking care of yourself, focus on protecting your team. Foster strong interpersonal relationships within your team, starting with good intrapersonal skills. When individuals address their own inner processes first, there is less tension. Teamwork becomes easier when people have solid intrapersonal skills and a supportive environment to return to.
6. Aim for impeccability, not perfectionism. To be impeccable means doing the best with the means and skills you currently have. While you may do better tomorrow, you live in the present, without the skills of the future. Do the best with what you have at any given moment, and let go of perfectionism, as it carries the risk of burning you out.
7. Let go of what disturbs you as soon as possible. You can’t change the past, and your impact on the future depends entirely on what you do now. Observing your thoughts and emotions allows you to let go of inner disturbances.
We all missed out on mental wellness lessons in school and, therefore, need to learn practical intrapersonal skills that we can apply at any moment, without relying on external devices or support.
I have always been mentally well, but I don’t attribute it to luck; I consider it a result of training my own mind. I have observed that I can apply my professional skills to the fullest due to my strong intrapersonal skills. These skills ensure my preparedness.
Do you have any final thoughts or comments before we conclude?
All difficulties become possible to overcome when I know how to restore my inner peace and maintain a healthy and peaceful mind.
When you work with others, you need to be aware of what they do and interconnect your actions with theirs. It is awareness, as the most universal and basic intrapersonal skill, that makes learning and adapting easy.
I know that when I lacked a system for securing my mental wellness, I struggled. Just as building a business demands a systemic approach, or doing a plan needs a system, securing your mental wellness also becomes easy when you have a systematic approach. The proactive mental wellness approach we developed with Wellness Orbit is such a unique and well-designed system that keeps you well.
I understand the value of my fit mind and excellent intrapersonal skills as an entrepreneur, a planning expert, and even as a father to my two lovely children.
