igloohome is a home automation company that creates smart locks, allowing property owners to grant remote access through a mobile app.

igloohome devices work offline for enhanced security and reliability. Unlike other Bluetooth smart locks, guests do not need to download an additional app to enter the property. The unique algoPIN™ technology generates time-sensitive access codes, similar to a banking token’s One-Time Password (OTP), ensuring a secure and seamless experience.

SME Business Review interviewed Anthony Chow, co-founder and CEO of igloohome, to discuss the company's journey, innovations, and his vision for the future. Here’s what Anthony had to say.

Interview Excerpts

What inspired you to start igloohome?

I saw a gap in how people managed access to their homes and businesses. Physical keys were outdated, and traditional access control systems were complex and expensive. I wanted to create a smarter way to handle security—one that made access more convenient without compromising safety. The goal was to remove the hassle of key management while maintaining complete control over who could enter a space and when.

What was the biggest challenge in the early days?

One of the biggest challenges was convincing people that smart access was not just a gadget but a necessary shift in how security should work. Many were used to traditional keys and hesitant to trust digital solutions. We had to demonstrate that our products were not only secure but also reliable in everyday situations. Building that trust took time, but once users saw how much easier access management could be, adoption grew quickly.

What makes igloohome different from other smart lock companies?

We focus on solving real problems rather than just pushing technology. Our products are designed for both individual users and businesses, making security simple without sacrificing control. One key differentiator is that our locks work offline. Instead of relying on Wi-Fi, which can be unreliable, we developed a unique technology that allows access codes to be generated and validated without an internet connection. This makes our solutions more secure and practical, especially for businesses managing multiple properties.

How do you balance security with convenience?

Security is non-negotiable, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of ease of use. We test every product rigorously to ensure it meets the highest security standards. Features like encrypted access codes, tamper detection, and real-time monitoring help users feel in control. At the same time, we make sure that the experience is seamless—users can grant access remotely, set time-sensitive codes, and track entry logs without any friction. The goal is to make security feel effortless.

Your products are widely used in the property and hospitality industries. How did that come about?

We realized early on that businesses needed smarter access solutions just as much as homeowners. Property managers were struggling with lost keys, maintenance teams needed scheduled access, and short-term rentals required seamless guest entry. Our technology solved these issues by allowing businesses to manage access remotely and track who enters and exits in real time. That efficiency has been a game changer, and word spread quickly. Now, we work with hotels, co-working spaces, developers, and other businesses that need secure and scalable access management.

How has igloohome expanded beyond Singapore?

Security and convenience are universal needs, so expanding globally was a natural step. We worked with partners in different regions to understand local requirements and adapt our solutions accordingly. Today, our products are used in homes, businesses, and properties around the world. Expansion is not just about selling in new markets but about understanding how people use access solutions differently in each region and adapting to those needs.

What drives product development at igloohome?

Everything starts with the user. We listen to what our customers need and build solutions that make their lives easier. Technology is only valuable if it solves a real problem, so every new product we develop is designed to be practical, secure, and easy to use. We also focus on integration—our products work with other smart home and business systems so that users can manage security as part of a broader ecosystem rather than a standalone tool.

What does success look like for you?

Success means making security smarter and more accessible for everyone. If our products help homeowners feel safer, make businesses more efficient, and eliminate the hassle of managing keys, then we are on the right track. Long-term success is about continuing to innovate while staying true to our mission of simplifying access without compromising security.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs building a tech company?

Solve a real problem, not just an interesting one. Too many startups build products because the technology is exciting rather than because there is a real demand for it. Focus on the user, test your ideas rigorously, and be ready to adapt. Building a business is never a straight path, but if you stay committed to delivering real value, growth will follow.
