SME Business Review reached out to Anthony See Chaur Yih, co-founder and CEO of Food Market Hub, for an interview to discuss the company’s impact, innovation, and his journey as an entrepreneur. Here’s what Anthony had to say.

Interview Excerpts

What inspired you to start Food Market Hub?

I have always been passionate about technology and how it can solve real-world problems. Before starting Food Market Hub, I saw firsthand how food businesses struggled with outdated procurement and inventory systems. Many restaurants relied on phone calls, paper invoices, and spreadsheets, which led to inefficiencies, wasted stock, and financial losses. I knew technology could change that, so I built a platform that automates these processes and gives businesses the tools to manage their supply chains more efficiently.

What challenges did you face in the early stages of the company?

Like any startup, gaining trust and adoption was a challenge. Restaurants and suppliers had been operating the same way for years, so introducing a digital platform required a shift in mindset. Convincing businesses to move from manual processes to a fully automated system took time. We focused on educating users, showing them how automation reduces errors, saves costs, and improves overall efficiency. Funding and scaling were also hurdles, but we stayed committed to our vision, and gradually, the adoption grew.

How does Food Market Hub help restaurants and suppliers operate more efficiently?

We eliminate guesswork in procurement. Restaurants get real-time visibility into inventory levels, preventing over-ordering and stock shortages. The system automates purchasing, tracks supplier pricing, and integrates with accounting software to streamline operations. For suppliers, it provides data-driven insights into demand patterns, helping them manage production and delivery schedules more effectively. The result is a smoother, more efficient supply chain that benefits both sides.

How does technology play a role in making food businesses more sustainable?

Food waste is a huge issue, and much of it comes from poor inventory management. Our platform improves demand forecasting so businesses can order exactly what they need, reducing excess stock that often goes to waste. By preventing unnecessary purchases, restaurants save money while contributing to sustainability efforts. Suppliers also benefit from more predictable demand, minimizing overproduction and waste in the supply chain.

What do you see as the biggest challenge in the food service industry right now?

Supply chain unpredictability is one of the biggest challenges. Price fluctuations, raw material shortages, and logistical disruptions make it difficult for restaurants and suppliers to plan effectively. Digital solutions like ours help businesses stay agile, giving them the tools to adjust procurement strategies in real time. Data-driven decision-making is more important than ever, especially in an industry that operates on tight margins.

Food Market Hub has expanded into multiple markets. How do you adapt the platform to different regions?

Every market has unique challenges, whether it’s regulatory compliance, supplier networks, or purchasing behaviors. We work closely with local businesses to understand their needs and customize the platform accordingly. Some markets require specific integrations, while others need solutions tailored to pricing models or payment structures. Our team ensures that Food Market Hub remains flexible and scalable, making it easy for businesses to adopt no matter where they operate.

You’ve built a company that blends food service with technology. What do you find most rewarding about this journey?

Seeing businesses thrive because of what we’ve built is the most rewarding part. When restaurant owners tell me how much time and money they’ve saved or how suppliers have improved their operations, I know we’re making a real impact. The food industry is challenging, and if we can make it easier for businesses to succeed, then we’re doing something meaningful.

What’s next for Food Market Hub?

We’re continuously improving our platform, investing in AI and machine learning to offer even more accurate demand forecasting and automation. Expansion into new markets is also a priority, as food businesses everywhere face similar challenges. We want to keep innovating, helping restaurants and suppliers work smarter, reduce waste, and stay competitive in an evolving industry.
