In Conversation with Richard Christiansen, Founder of Flamingo Estate

What inspired you to create Flamingo Estate?

I wanted to build something that felt deeply personal and connected to nature. Flamingo Estate started as a passion project—an attempt to bring more intention and beauty into everyday life. I saw an opportunity to create something that was not just about products but about a way of living. The idea was to celebrate the senses, to create moments of stillness, and to remind people of the importance of craftsmanship, tradition, and sustainability.

How does Flamingo Estate differentiate itself in a crowded market?

We focus on authenticity. Everything we do is rooted in a real, tangible experience—whether it's the way we source ingredients, the farmers we partner with, or the methods we use to create our products. There is no rush to mass-produce or cut corners. Instead, we are committed to quality and experience above everything else. Every scent, flavor, and texture is meant to evoke something personal, something meaningful.

What role does sustainability play in your work?

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We work with farmers who practice regenerative agriculture, ensuring that the land is not just maintained but improved. We use materials that are meant to last, not end up in a landfill. For us, sustainability isn't a marketing angle—it’s a responsibility. It means creating in a way that respects the earth and ensures that the next generation can continue to enjoy its abundance.

What has been the most rewarding part of building Flamingo Estate?

Seeing how deeply people connect with what we create. It’s not just about a product; it’s about the experience that comes with it. When someone tells me that a scent reminds them of a childhood memory or that a flavor transported them somewhere special, that’s the best part. Knowing that something we made brought someone joy is incredibly fulfilling.

Could you share some of the challenges you've faced along the way?

Building something with integrity in today’s world is not easy. There is always pressure to cut costs, to do things faster, to take shortcuts. But we don’t believe in that. Staying true to our vision means saying no a lot—no to certain suppliers, no to compromises, no to things that don’t align with our values. It can be challenging, but it’s always worth it.

How do you source the ingredients and materials for Flamingo Estate?

We go straight to the source. We work with farmers, artisans, and craftspeople who share our values. Whether it’s an olive oil producer in California, a beekeeper harvesting wild honey, or a perfumer extracting botanical essences, we make sure that everything comes from a place of care and quality. It’s about relationships and trust, ensuring that what we create is not just good but exceptional.

What do you want people to feel when they experience Flamingo Estate?

I want them to slow down. To take a deep breath. To appreciate the small, beautiful details of life. Whether it's lighting a candle, using a body oil, or savoring a piece of fruit, I want people to feel connected—to nature, to tradition, to themselves. It’s about creating rituals that bring joy and presence to everyday moments.

How has your background influenced the vision for Flamingo Estate?

My background has always been rooted in storytelling, design, and experience. I’ve always been fascinated by how things make people feel. Flamingo Estate is a culmination of that—a place where every detail matters, where everything tells a story. It’s not just a brand; it’s an invitation to live with more awareness and appreciation.

What’s next for Flamingo Estate?

We’re always looking for ways to deepen our connection to nature and craftsmanship. Whether it’s expanding our farm partnerships, creating new experiences, or finding new ways to bring people closer to the essence of what we do, we are constantly evolving. But one thing will always remain the same—our commitment to quality, sustainability, and the celebration of the senses.
