In the beginning of 2020, Elon Musk committed to "liquidate nearly all tangible assets" in order to focus on the production of electric cars, the construction of rockets, and the oversight of his various enterprises. Subsequently, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX divested himself of all his mansions and relocated to a $50,000 rental residence situated in Boca Chica, Texas, the vicinity of SpaceX's development and testing facilities. On August 6, Walter Isaacson, Musk's biographer, provided a preview of the dwelling of the world's wealthiest individual in a tweet.

“Musk decided to sell his five grand houses and to have as his primary residence this spartan two-bedroom house in Boca Chica, TX, where we would meet and he would sit at this wood table and make phone calls,” Isaacson wrote in a photo caption on X.

The photo Isaacson posted depicted an unassuming open kitchen and a segment of Musk's living space. It deviated from the typical meticulously staged interior photographs often associated with biographies of billionaires. In the kitchen, a substantial men's jacket was casually draped over one of the dining chairs, and various items adorned the wooden coffee table in the living room. Among these items were a black and silver rocket sculpture and what appeared to be either a katana or Tachi. The snapshot provided a glimpse into the more relaxed and lived-in aspects of Musk's home, departing from the conventional opulence often associated with the residences of individuals of significant wealth.

Isaacson hinted that he would provide insights into the reasons behind Musk's decision to downsize in his forthcoming book, "Elon Musk," which was scheduled for release on September 12.  .

Elon Musk unveiled his Boca Chica residence for the first time in June 2021. The compact dwelling was reportedly constructed by Boxabl, a startup specializing in the production of modular instant homes. This revelation sheds light on Musk's choice of a smaller, modular living space, aligning with his previous commitment to downsize and streamline his physical possessions.

Boxabl is known for making 20 feet x 20 feet foldable houses, specifically referred to as "Boxable Casita," designed in a studio apartment style. In November 2021, the company released a YouTube video announcing the construction of a Casita house for a "high-profile" and "top-secret" customer in Boca Chica. The video showcased the house, and notably, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket poster adorned the door, suggesting a connection to Elon Musk, who is associated with SpaceX and Boca Chica. This information aligns with Musk's residence in the Boca Chica area and his interest in modular and compact living spaces.

The kitchen captured in Isaacson's photo bears a striking resemblance to the typical kitchen showcased in Boxabl's 2021 YouTube video. However, as noted by the author, Musk resides in a two-bedroom home as opposed to a studio.
