LONDON, Aug. 21, 2025 — Having recorded a growth of 24–25 percent globally last year, Range Rover Sport has been an asset driving sales for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), an upward trend the automotive giant expects to continue market by market.
The latest model rolled out by Range Rover is its Sport SV Carbon, launched on August 13 this year. According to the carmaker, the new model introduces a blend of dynamic capability and sophisticated modern luxury to Range Rover’s performance flagship.
Commenting on the geographies where Range Rover has witnessed exceptional growth, Martin Limpert, Global Managing Director, Range Rover, told reporters in London recently that the luxury vehicle brand was performing well in several parts of the world.
“We grew globally by 24–25 percent with Range Rover Sport alone last year, and obviously it will rise market by market. Besides India, the U.S. has been strong for Range Rover Sport, and then we have selective small markets where we saw certain growth,” said Martin.
The Global MD of Range Rover further noted that in Europe, plug-in and hybrid models have also seen good success.
What Led to the Success of Range Rover Sport?
Range Rover Sport SV Carbon is the third vehicle in the new line-up, which includes Range Rover Sport SV and SV Black. The new model made its world premiere at the Range Rover House during Monterey Car Week.
Ryan Miller, Product and Services Marketing Director, Range Rover, said: “Following the introduction of the previously limited Range Rover Sport SV Edition ONE and Edition TWO, clients now have more choice when specifying their ultimate luxury performance SUV.”
“Last month we announced the Range Rover Sport SV Black, offering a stealthy, dipped-in-black aesthetic, while the new Range Rover Sport SV Carbon is an assertive interpretation of our luxury performance SUV. Offered alongside Range Rover Sport SV and SV Black, it completes the new line-up, showcasing the best of Range Rover’s sophisticated carbon fibre materials for the ultimate expression of lightweight performance.”
Present and Future of Range Rover You Should Know
Competition from Mercedes-Maybach: When asked about the tech-loaded features of Mercedes-Maybach helping the German luxury carmaker compete with Range Rover Sport, Martin said it is important for Range Rover to understand what the brand stands for and ensure whatever it builds fits that identity.
“Both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have the recognition of the original luxury SUV. It is about refinement and a very comfortable position and seating. It is about craftsmanship in its execution, but at the same time it is about reductiveness.”
Range Rover Electric: Martin said the carmaker is excited about the upcoming Range Rover Electric and is upbeat that the EV will be “Range Rover first” in all aspects. “The Range Rover Electric will essentially have everything that a Range Rover has and what the customer expects from a Range Rover. This includes driving comfort, capability, towing capacity, seating depth, everything must be refined,” said Martin.
Commenting on whether Range Rover Electric will register double-digit growth, Martin said, “We are still in the testing phase, and we will make sure that it is the best Range Rover ever and delivers great numbers.”
U.S. and China Markets Comparison: As per Martin, it is debatable which is the bigger market for Range Rover between China and the U.S. However, he said the U.S. is a bigger market for the luxury carmaker in terms of electrification.
“We will see what the tariffs mean for us. China is a very fast electrifying market for us, and both markets will be important,” he said.
He added that JLR, as the company that houses four brands, Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, Jaguar, has allowed the auto giant to establish each brand with its individuality. “Range Rover was the first SUV and dates back to 1955, so we recently celebrated 55 years of the Range Rover brand, and this year has been wonderful for us.”
Q1 Earnings
Notably, in June this year, JLR reported its wholesale and retail sales for the first quarter of FY26 (three months to June 30, 2025). Volumes reduced, in line with the company’s expectations, following a challenging quarter.
This largely reflects the planned wind-down of legacy Jaguar models ahead of the launch of new Jaguar, and a pause in shipments to the U.S. during April 2025 following the introduction of U.S. import tariffs.
