Overview: Catalant Technologies, Inc.

Catalant Technologies, Inc., formerly known as HourlyNerd, operates as a freelance marketplace leveraging a machine-learning algorithm to match client projects with independent consultants possessing the requisite skills and expertise. With a roster of over 70,000 independent consultants, Catalant facilitates the connection between clients and freelancers. The company is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

The company was established in 2013 as part of a Harvard Business School course, as already noted above. The founding team comprised Rob Biederman, Patrick Petitti, Peter Maglathlin, and Joe Miller. Mark Cuban-led investment group provided $750,000 in seed funding to HourlyNerd in September 2013, propelling its growth into a global online marketplace. The platform effectively connected companies of diverse sizes with more than 25,000 independent business consultants for project-based engagements. The Catalant platform provides clients with a comprehensive set of tools and features, allowing them to seamlessly manage various aspects of their projects in one centralized location. The platform enables clients to access and deploy individuals from diverse talent pools, operating both within and outside their organizations.

These talent pools encompass employees, alumni, and retirees, as well as independent consultants and firms. The "Expert Marketplace" on Catalant lists more than 70,000 independent experts and 1,500 boutique firms, offering a broad array of skills and expertise for clients to choose from and efficiently meet their project needs.
