GE Aerospace, a division of General Electric, is making significant strides in the field of hybrid-electric flight technology. With a decade-long commitment to research and development, the company is now bringing their advanced technology to the commercial aviation industry.

At the heart of GE Aerospace's electrical power business is the Electrical Power Integrated Systems Center (EPISCenter) in Dayton, Ohio. Since its establishment in 2013, EPISCenter has played a crucial role in advancing electrical power systems for aircraft. Now, the center is expanding its operations to work on multiple projects in collaboration with NASA, Sikorsky, and their presence in Italy.

“Our research collaborations with NASA continue to advance state-of-the-art propulsion systems with an important aim — to drive industry efforts to improve efficiency and reduce emissions compared to today’s aircraft engines,” said Arjan Hegeman, general manager of advanced technology for GE Aerospace.

In a major boost to their efforts, GE Aerospace recently announced a $20 million investment in EPISCenter. This funding will be used to develop new testing facilities and equipment, allowing the center to further innovate in the field of hybrid-electric propulsion systems.

The investment is a direct result of EPISCenter being chosen by NASA for their Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration (EPFD) program. As part of this program, GE Aerospace will develop a powerful hybrid-electric propulsion system. The EPFD program aims to demonstrate the capabilities of hybrid-electric propulsion systems in aircraft, leading to more sustainable and efficient air travel.

By investing in hybrid-electric flight technology, GE Aerospace is at the forefront of the aviation industry's push for greener and more sustainable solutions. Their commitment to innovation and collaboration with industry leaders like NASA and Sikorsky shows their dedication to revolutionizing the future of flying.

With the expansion of EPISCenter and the development of a powerful hybrid-electric propulsion system, GE Aerospace is set to make a noteworthy impact on commercial aviation. This investment not only showcases their technological expertise but also highlights their commitment to creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for air travel.
