SEATTLE, Wash., August 26, 2026 — Bluesky now allows users to upload videos of up to 10 minutes, more than three times the previous three-minute limit. The social network announced the change Tuesday, allowing users to publish longer videos without dividing them across multiple posts. Bluesky had raised the previous limit to three minutes last year.

Bluesky now supports video files of up to 300MB, and videos now upload two to three times faster than before.

Bluesky Reaches TikTok’s Limit

The 10-minute limit matches TikTok's allowance for videos recorded directly through its app. Meta-owned Threads permits videos of up to five minutes, while X allows free users to upload videos lasting up to 140 seconds.

X offers much longer uploads to paying users. Subscribers can upload videos lasting three to four hours, with file sizes of up to 16GB. X has also introduced a video editor that lets users edit their videos before publishing them, adding another video creation feature to the platform.

Other AT Protocol Apps Get Longer Videos

The change also applies to applications that use the AT Protocol, the technology underlying Bluesky. Apps including Bluescreen, Reelo and Skylight will be able to support videos of up to 10 minutes, making the longer upload limit available beyond Bluesky's own application.

Users of those applications will be able to publish longer recordings in a single post rather than divide them into multiple parts. Bluesky users also receive the 300MB file allowance and faster upload speeds, giving them a larger file limit alongside the expanded video duration.

User Activity Remains a Challenge

The video update comes as Bluesky deals with lower activity on its platform. Data from Similarweb cited by TechCrunch showed that Bluesky’s active user base had fallen by more than 25% year over year as of July. The decline means the latest video expansion comes while the platform is also dealing with weaker user activity.

The new limit gives Bluesky users more than three times the video duration previously available. At 10 minutes, Bluesky now matches TikTok’s limit for videos recorded in its app and exceeds Threads’ five-minute limit.
